Did not surf today
I took today off as I had a World Surf Kayak committee meeting at 3 today.
I needed a day to rest my muscles and get a few things done.
A few observations:
I must say that I wish I could speak spanish. I know a little bit that I learned when I was here in 2002, but not much at all. I feel like an idiot everywhere I go, and its a bit embarassing. However everyone here is very nice, and I suppose they are used to tourists, because everyone has been very patient with me. It makes you appreciate communication when you are trying to make someone understand what you are saying and neither of you speak the same language. I feel like I am here I should be speaking the local language instead of trying to get them to understand me, makes me feel a bit guilty.
It seems that drug dealers are everywhere down here. If you walk down the street at night, and you make eye contact with 10 people, 8 of them are going to ask you if you want to buy weed or cocaine. Theft is a huge problem too, you can´t leave anything in your car, and all of the houses here have huge fences with broken glass lining the tops. One of the fcars in our group had its window busted, while we were standing near it. The theives made off with April´s clothes and some money. It kind of sucks not being able to leave anything anywhere, I have to be really careful with my cameras. That being said, so many people are kind and generous here. It is a very welcoming place.
It rained a LOT today, and I got drenched. I guess they were serious when they said we were entering the rainy season.
Like I said we had a meeting of the Worlds committee, of which I am a member, and we had a lot to discuss. Everything seems to be on track though.
It seems that I have been put in charge of measuring boats and making sure they all meet specifications during check in. I hope it goes well, wish me luck.

who are these privateers posting on your blog?
anyways i thought i could ease your mind by letting you know that in spanish the word for surf is "surf" and kayak is "kayak", except the emphasis is placed on the yak syllable. so if you stick to your business you should get by.
oh and the word for pirate is "pirata" as in "comeme crudo, pirata sucio"
(eat me raw, filthy pirate)
good luck jigga!
Some other Spanish that you might find useful:
"Yo quiero comprar muchos helados." [jo kee-ero come-prar moo-chos ay-la-dos] : I would like to buy a lot of ice cream.
"Si tratas vendirme las drogas, voy a patearte como un Ninja." [see tra-tas ven-deer-may las droe-gaz, voy a pa-tay-arr-tay coe-moe oon Ninja] : If you try to sell me drugs, I am going to Ninja kick you.
"Su barco es dos centrimetros mas alla de lo que esta ligitimo. Lo siento, puta." [soo bar-ko s dos sen-tree-may-tros moss aeya day low kay es-ta lee-ghee-tee-moe. Low see-en-toe, poo-ta. : Your boat is two centimeters beyond what is legal. I'm sorry, bitch."
That's all you need to know. If you want to eat seafood, ask for "Mariscos sabores." You should be set. Go gettum.
